Record Online Sale for Contemporary Ceramics with iRostrum
Last month saw Maak Contemporary Ceramics achieve a record online sale for a work of studio ceramics sold by online auction. The spectacular vessel by Magdalene Odundo, sourced from a private collector in the UK, sold for £36,000 inclusive of Buyer's Premium. Bidding started early, with international participation, but was eventually a contest between two determined bidders who pushed the price up in the closing minutes. Maak's September Contemporary Ceramics Auction saw other successes and a strong sale overall with the 267 lots achieving a sold rate of 79% by value in total.
Maak was the first auction house to run their auctions and entire business operations using the iRostrum+ auction software. Since their first auction with iRostrum in 2011 their specialist auctions have grown both in size and in audience, attracting a far reaching international clientele. Their latest auction saw the highest level of participation yet with in excess of 1,000 unique visitors viewing and bidding in the auction over the course of the week.
Maak commented, 'The feedback we receive from our clients bidding in our auctions via the iRostrum platform has been unanimously positive. The system is responsive offering instant feedback and complete transparency so that clients are confident in what to many is a new approach to bidding at auction. Even clients who are initially nervous of any online bidding process are quick to see how simple it is and the advantages of flexibility it offers them.'
